Hello World!

Welcome to my blog! As this is my first post, I would love to introduce myself. My name is Christy Therrien, and I am an aspiring therapist. I am currently working on my Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work. After my BSW, I will be working towards my Masters of Social Work.

My main goal is to have my very own therapeutic practice where I can implement one-on-one therapy to individuals who are struggling with any mental concerns, such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD.

I strongly believe that healing starts within. With that in mind, we all need to reach within to start and to carry on with our healing process. With my future practice, I don’t plan to do the traditional chair and couch practice. I plan to incorporate natural healing frequencies, such as walking through a garden that I will create for this very reason. When we are surrounded by natural beauty and life, our inner-beings shout, allowing us to have an opportunity to listen to ourselves.

As I am working towards my BSW, I am also embarking on a spiritual journey that allows me to learn more about the power of inner energy. I love everything that involves spirit and energy. Growing up, I lived in an active paranormal home, which started my interest in the paranormal world.

As I grew up, I became more connected to the spiritual energy that surrounds us, that is within us, and that is us. I became more interested in manifestation and the connection to my inner-self through the art of meditation, creating, journaling, leaning, and yoga.

As my current program is heavily influenced by the Indigenous culture, I am not only learning how to work with different populations who are facing barriers in life, I am also learning about many spiritual practices that the Indigenous culture practices, which I find to be a privilege and a blessing to learn about.

My hobbies include meditation, yoga, working out, traveling, and surrounding myself with loved ones. I also love to take on creative projects, such as creative writing, painting, drawing, and other crafty projects that inspire me.

I have just recently gotten into the hobby of writing PenPal mail. I love the idea of making crafty letters and learning from others through their writing.

I am also currently working on my first book, which It’s all about how to start healing within as there are strategies on how to connect with our inner selves. More information about my book on in the "books" tab on the top right corner.

Additionally, I currently live in Ontario, Canada, and will be moving to Alberta with my fiancé this August. We have decided to make this move as I want to complete my schooling out there as there are various practicum opportunities. Luckily, there are many jobs out there for various fields. As my fiancé is a welder, he is open to the move as he will be glorified.

As we embark on this new journey, we are eager to explore more of Canada’s beautiful aspect. As we plan to work on our careers and on ourselves out there, we also plan to explore the province as we are new to seeing such beauty, such as mountains, crystal clear blue water, the Northern lights, and the overall landscapes. As we appreciate the beauty of what Northern Ontario offers, we are in awe of what we can find in Alberta.

Along with our move, we will be bringing our cat Jellybean, who is only a couple of months old. My brother’s cat has delivered kittens, and I just had to bring one with us (with the approval of the fiancé of course haha).

My fiancé and I are recently engaged (June 2nd 2023), which is the date of our first year anniversary! He had proposed to me on Manitoulin Island while we were camping at a campsite. It was perfect. We had a campsite that was right on a lake facing the sunset. As I am facing so many new things this time of my life, I become both excited and nervous. My old boss once told me to try things that both scare me and excite me. So here I am, taking on her advice with grace. Thank you Melissa! You are one inspirational person! Thank you for reading my first blog. I am excited to write more as my adventure carries on as well as I will learn professionally and personally within my field. I am eager to tell you all what I learn throughout my journey!

Until next time,

Christy
